Pixar's 'Toy Story 5' First Teaser Released, Toys Face Off Against Smart Tablets

On November 11, Pixar heightened fans' expectations by releasing the first official teaser trailer for 'Toy Story 5'. Set to be released on June 19, 2026, this film is the fifth installment presented 31 years after the first film's release, depicting the new challenges faced by toys in the age of technology.

The teaser features INXS's 'Never Tear Us Apart' as background music and revolves around a special package delivered to Bonnie. Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other toys watch nervously as the box is opened. What emerges from the box is a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet named Lilypad. Upon saying, "Hello, I am Lilypad. Let's play!", the toys begin to tremble in fear.

Lilypad is a new character voiced by Greta Lee, posing a new threat to the existing toys regarding 'playtime'. The teaser's subtitle poses the provocative question, "Is the era of toys over?", hinting at the conflict between traditional play and digital devices. This seems to directly address the screen time issues that modern parents grapple with.

Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack return as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie, respectively, while Tony Hale also reprises his role as Forky. Joining the cast is new actor Greta Lee, along with Conan O'Brien, who will play a high-tech potty training toy named Smarty Pants. Directors Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenah Harris stated, "It has been a humorous and heartwarming journey exploring how our beloved legacy toy team reacts to today's technological world."

The Toy Story series is Pixar's most successful franchise, with Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 each grossing over $1 billion at the global box office and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Toy Story 5 is set to be Pixar's 31st feature film before its release in June 2026, with the original film 'Hoppers' premiering earlier in March 2026. Pixar's most recent film, Inside Out 2, has grossed over $1.5 billion, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2024.
