Shin Min-a Challenges Herself with Her First Empress Role in Disney+ 'The Remarried Empress'!

Actress Shin Min-a is taking on her first empress role and shared her thoughts on this new challenge.

On the 13th (local time), at the 'Disney+ Original Preview 2025' event held at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Shin Min-a said, "The story set somewhere between the West and the East is a new attempt, and at first, it felt a bit unfamiliar."

〈The Remarried Empress〉 is a romance fantasy that depicts the story of the empress Navier (Shin Min-a) of the fictional Dongdae Empire, who divorces Emperor Sobiesu (Ju Ji-hoon) after he falls for the slave Rasta (Lee Se-young) and remarries Prince Heinri (Lee Jong-suk) from a neighboring country. This work is based on the webtoon of the same name, which recorded approximately 2.6 billion global views as of the end of last year.

At the event, the main cast members Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, and Lee Se-young, except for Lee Jong-suk, attended to introduce the work. Shin Min-a explained her participation, saying, "The original webtoon was so loved, and I know many people are looking forward to (the series). I was also curious about how the original would be adapted into a drama, which is why I decided to participate."

For Shin Min-a, who has mainly worked in modern dramas, this project was a new challenge. She recalled, "Aside from the past fusion historical drama (〈Arang and the Magistrate〉), I have only filmed modern dramas, so I was both worried and excited. Wearing a dress and a crown made me act with more gravity, and it was a fun experience."

Shin Min-a also mentioned the similarities between herself and her character Navier. She said, "Navier is always tense, learning, and striving to maintain her position as empress for years, and I think there are similar aspects since I am also an actress who is seen by the public."

Ju Ji-hoon expressed his curiosity about how the webtoon, which has received much love worldwide, would be realized, saying, "I felt curiosity and fun about the expansion of the fantasy world, regardless of East and West or race."

Lee Se-young shared, "I have never done a fantasy work, and since it is a new role, I thought I could learn a lot, so I readily participated. I sometimes think that there might be a part of me that is pure but gradually starts to become greedy, like the character Rasta."

〈The Remarried Empress〉 is set to be exclusively released on Disney+ next year.
