Nick and Judy Return After 9 Years! Disney's 'Zootopia 2'

Disney's animated film 〈Zootopia 2〉 will meet audiences in theaters nationwide on the 26th. This long-awaited sequel, nine years after the globally beloved 〈Zootopia〉 released in 2016, depicts the story of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, now police officers, uncovering new secrets hidden in Zootopia.

The film begins a week after the events of the previous installment. The discovery of traces of reptiles, which have been absent for 100 years, marks the start of the story in the fantastical city of Zootopia, where all animals coexist peacefully.

While investigating suspicious imports, Judy and Nick capture traces of reptiles from a vehicle under investigation. Later, at the 'Zootopia 100th Anniversary Banquet', they encounter the snake character Gary the Snake, plunging the city into unexpected chaos. The two protagonists uncover hidden secrets related to the construction of Zootopia while revealing the truth behind the appearance of reptiles.

The most notable feature of this sequel is the introduction of diverse characters and new spaces. A total of 67 animal characters, including Gary the Snake, Beaver Nibbles, and the mayor of Zootopia, are vividly portrayed. In particular, scenes of animals watching online video services (OTT) and exercising at the gym evoke a sense of familiarity and empathy among the audience.

The newly introduced swamp market is a unique space where land and water coexist, serving as a habitat for aquatic animals. The scenes of traveling by boat, the passage reminiscent of water tubes, and the secret meeting place for reptiles provide a rich visual experience. The chase between Judy and Nick that unfolds here adds to the film's excitement.

Like its predecessor, this film also carries the core message of 'coexistence'. While the first film dealt with the prejudices faced by the small rabbit Judy in her journey to become a police officer, the sequel centers around the story of reptiles that had to disappear from Zootopia for 100 years. The process of conflict and reconciliation between the fox and the rabbit, two species that instinctively oppose each other, effectively conveys the importance of respecting diversity and mutual understanding.
