Choi In-ho's Novel Becomes a Musical, 'Dreaming of the Peach Blossom Spring' Premiering at the National Theater in January Next Year

The late Choi In-ho's novel 「Dreaming of the Peach Blossom Spring」 is being reborn as a musical. The production company Acom announced on December 1 that the musical 〈Dreaming of the Peach Blossom Spring〉 will premiere on January 27, 2026, at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater.

The original novel 「Dreaming of the Peach Blossom Spring」 is a modern reinterpretation of the story of Domi from the 「Samguk Sagi」, written by the scholar Kim Bu-sik during the Goryeo Dynasty. It unfolds the love story between Domi and Arang, which begins with King Gaeru of Baekje's desire for Domi's wife, and the desires of Queen Yeogyeong.

In the main casting, Min Woo-hyuk and Kim Joo-taek will play the role of King Yeogyeong, who is consumed by desire and anxiety. Ha Yoon-joo and Yuria have been cast as Arang, a woman trying to protect her true love.

In particular, Ha Yoon-joo is a holder of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 30 in traditional song and a traditional vocalist, making her musical stage debut this time. The role of Domi will be played by Lee Chung-joo and Kim Seong-sik.

The production team is led by director Yoon Ho-jin, who directed the musical 〈The Last Empress〉, with writer Ahn Jae-seung, composer Oh Sang-jun, and music director Kim Moon-jung participating.

The performance will run at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater until February 22, 2026, before moving to Charlotte Theater to continue on stage until April.

Acom stated that they aim to advance to Broadway in the United States after the domestic performances.
