Master Hirokazu Kore-eda, Live-Action Film 'Look Back' Set to Land in Korea in 2026!

World-renowned master director Hirokazu Kore-eda brings to life the short manga 「Look Back」 by Tatsuki Fujimoto as a live-action film.

On the 3rd, Megabox officially announced, "Director Hirokazu Kore-eda has confirmed the domestic release of the film 〈Look Back〉 for 2026," stating that he is in charge of directing, writing, and editing. The meeting of director Kore-eda, who won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for 〈Shoplifters〉, and the genius manga artist Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for 「Chainsaw Man」, is already drawing significant attention in the film industry.

〈Look Back〉 is a work that depicts the brilliant yet poignant youth of two girls, Fujino and Kyomoto, connected by their passion for manga. The animated version, which was released domestically last year (2024), attracted over 300,000 viewers with its solid story and touching direction, creating a 'Nth viewing' craze.

Director Kore-eda expressed his deep affection for the live-action adaptation's background, stating, "I happened to come across the original work and read it in one go." He revealed that he felt the author's desperate resolve that one cannot move forward without creating, and that sentiment resonated deeply with him.

The film has completed all filming and is currently in post-production. Expectations are high for how Kore-eda's unique warm yet sharp perspective will portray the growing pains of the two girls in live-action.
