"We have barely held on with duct tape and wire to protect our son. But greedy jackals appeared from the darkness and shattered all our efforts."
Ahead of the sentencing hearing for the doctor Salvador Plasencia, who drove the star of the sitcom 'Friends', late Matthew Perry, to his death, the family urged the court for severe punishment with a heart full of blood.
According to U.S. court records on the 4th (local time), Matthew Perry's mother, Susan Morrison, stepfather Keith Morrison, and biological father John Perry, among other family members, submitted a Victim Impact Statement requesting the maximum sentence for Plasencia.
◆ "Was Matthew a 'Moron' to You?"
The family's anger focused on the fact that Plasencia treated Perry not as a patient but merely as a 'money-making tool'. In the investigation, a text message sent by Plasencia to a colleague contained the mocking statement, "I wonder how much this moron will pay".
Keith Morrison, Perry's stepfather and a prominent journalist, criticized in the statement, "I cannot understand why he wanted to become a doctor. He repeatedly violated the most important oath of a doctor and secretly met the victim at night to inject a lethal dose of ketamine for just a few thousand dollars."
Mother Susan also stated, "The sorrow of losing a child is immeasurable. It feels like the ground is collapsing beneath me," and described the medical staff who preyed on her son's weakness (addiction) as 'Greedy Jackals'.
◆ "He Didn't Stop Even Knowing He Would Die"
Biological father John Perry and stepmother Debbie Perry also requested the court's stern judgment through separate statements, asking, "Matthew's recovery depended on your refusal of (the drugs). How long did you think you could supply that much ketamine before he would eventually die?"
◆ Prosecution 3 Years vs. Family "Heavier Sentence"
Plasencia pleaded guilty to four counts of illegal distribution of ketamine last July. Legally, he could face up to 40 years, but the prosecution has recommended 3 years in prison and 2 years of probation.
On the other hand, Plasencia's side is appealing for leniency, stating, "He voluntarily surrendered his medical license, losing both his livelihood and reputation." The family desires a sentence higher than the prosecution's recommendation, drawing global attention to what judgment the court will deliver.
