Actor Dave Coulier (66), beloved as the cheerful 'Uncle Joey' in the American sitcom 'Full House', is once again battling cancer. Just 7 months after being declared cured of lymphoma, a completely different type of cancer has been discovered.

On the 2nd (local time), Dave Coulier revealed in an exclusive interview with NBC's flagship program 'Today' that he was diagnosed with HPV (Human Papillomavirus) related oropharyngeal cancer last October.

◆ "I Just Got Cured..." A Rollercoaster Battle with Cancer

2025 has been a harsh year for Coulier. In March of this year, he successfully completed treatment for stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma and received a 'remission' diagnosis. However, that joy did not last long.

He expressed his feelings, saying, "After finishing chemotherapy, I felt relieved, thinking, 'Wow, it's all gone,' but shortly after, I received test results indicating that there was another type of cancer. It was really shocking."

This cancer was accidentally discovered during a routine PET scan for lymphoma follow-up. Medical staff confirmed that the tumor on the underside of his tongue was not a recurrence of lymphoma but a separate cancer known as 'P16 positive oropharyngeal cancer'.

◆ "The Virus Infected 30 Years Ago is the Cause... But Hopeful"

According to medical staff, this cancer was caused by an HPV-16 virus infection. Coulier explained, "Doctors said I might have been infected with HPV up to 30 years ago. Most people just carry the virus, but in my case, it became activated and turned into cancer."

The silver lining is that the prognosis is very good. Coulier stated, "Because it was detected early, the chances of treatment are very high. Medical staff expect a cure rate of over 90%."

He is currently undergoing radiation therapy five times a week, totaling 35 sessions, until the end of December. Coulier shared, "This is a completely different fight from the previous chemotherapy. There is nausea and pain, but I am positively overcoming it."

◆ "Cancer Found Cancer"

Coulier is viewing this diagnosis as a 'blessing in disguise'. He said, "Ironically, because I had lymphoma, I was able to detect this cancer early. If I hadn't had regular check-ups, the situation would have been much more serious," emphasizing the importance of early detection to the public.
