"The fathers of all existing boy bands have taken over Christmas in New York."
On the evening of December 3rd (local time), thousands of spectators gathered at Rockefeller Center in New York cheered loudly for the legendary R&B group New Edition. All six members including Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, and Ralph Tresvant took the stage at the 93rd Christmas tree lighting ceremony, showcasing their unchanging friendship and harmony.
◆ From Santa's Journey to an Emotional Finale
New Edition opened the stage with their signature holiday hit "It's Christmas (All Over The World)". This song, depicting Santa Claus's journey around the world on Christmas Eve, created a magical moment with the sweet harmonies of the six members.
The highlight was the final performance just before the tree lighting. Dressed in matching green jackets that created a festive atmosphere, they passionately performed "Give Love on Christmas Day", a reinterpretation of the original by the Jackson 5, delivering a warm message of love to the audience.

◆ 'The Boys from Boston' Who Made R&B History
Formed in Boston in the 1980s, New Edition is not just a popular group but a significant milestone in pop history. With hits like "Candy Girl", "Cool It Now", and "Mr. Telephone Man", they established a format that perfectly combined dance and singing, greatly influencing many later groups such as Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys, and NSYNC.
In particular, the dramatic narrative of Bobby Brown's departure and solo success, the reunion of the six-member group including Johnny Gill in 1996, and the highly-rated BET miniseries "The New Edition Story" in 2017 is regarded as an ongoing legend.
Meanwhile, the event featured not only New Edition but also host Reba McEntire, along with Gwen Stefani, Marc Anthony, Michael Bublé, and a special performance by the Radio City Rockets celebrating their 100th anniversary.
