"Different from Superman"... 'Supergirl' Milly Alcock Transforms into a Trauma-Filled 'Antihero'

"She does not speak of hope. She speaks of survival and revenge." The new 'Supergirl' in the DC Universe has returned not as the cheerful hero we knew, but as a wounded 'antihero'. And by her side is the galaxy's worst bounty hunter, 'Lobo'.

On the 12th (local time on the 11th), James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEOs of DC Studios, held a preview party in Manhattan and unveiled the first trailer for the movie 'Supergirl'.

◆ Blondie's 'Call Me' and Lobo

The trailer begins with the iconic song 'Call Me' by the band Blondie, which dominated the 1980s. Scenes of bringing Superdog Crypto from a fortress of isolation and the lonely Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) blowing out the candle on her 21st birthday in a dark room are interspersed.

The biggest shock comes from a brief appearance of Jason Momoa in the middle of the video. As he transforms from 'Aquaman' into the galaxy's outlaw 'Lobo', cheers erupted from the audience. James Gunn revealed, "From the early days of DC Studios, I had Momoa in mind for the role of Lobo."

◆ "A Path Opposite to Superman"

Director Craig Gillespie defined this film as a "true antihero story". He explained, "Kara is far from the optimism that her cousin Superman possesses. She carries immense trauma and burdens."

The desolate galaxy colonies and bizarre aliens depicted in the released video are said to evoke the chaotic yet vibrant aesthetics of James Gunn's previous work 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

◆ From Dragon Girl to Steel Woman

James Gunn recalled the casting of Milly Alcock, saying, "After seeing her as young Rhaenyra in 'House of the Dragon', I thought she would be perfect as Supergirl."

The film features Matthias Schweighöfer as the main villain 'Krem', and Eve Ridley as 'Ruthye Mary Knolle', the girl who hires Supergirl for revenge.

The movie 'Supergirl', set to heat up the summer of 2026, will be released on June 26, 2026.
