Jeon Hyun-moo "IV drip in the car is not an illegal procedure"… Drawing a line on the 'injection aunt' controversy

Broadcaster Jeon Hyun-moo has officially clarified the controversy surrounding a broadcast screen showing him receiving an IV drip in a car.

On the 19th, his agency SM C&C stated in an official statement that Jeon Hyun-moo received treatment through normal medical procedures in 2016. The agency explained, "Jeon Hyun-moo was not in good condition at the time and received treatment after a consultation and prescription from the attending physician at the hospital."

The controversial scene is from an episode of the MBC entertainment program 〈I Live Alone〉 aired in 2016. The agency explained, "Due to tight filming schedules, the process of completing the treatment during transportation was unfortunately exposed in the broadcast under the physician's judgment."

Recently, suspicions have been raised in the entertainment industry regarding illegal procedures performed by non-medical personnel, leading to a re-examination of Jeon Hyun-moo's past broadcast screens. The fact that broadcasters Park Na-rae, SHINee's Key, and YouTuber Lip Jjalbeun Haetnim received treatments from non-medical personnel known as 'injection aunts' has further spread the controversy.

In response, the agency emphasized, "All medical actions, except for the final stage of treatment, were carried out based on the judgment and prescription of medical staff within the hospital," and stated, "There is absolutely no fact that a medical professional was personally called or that illegal procedures were received."

The agency also stated, "The current suspicions arise from misunderstandings that occurred as only some scenes were spread online without sufficient context of the situation at the time," and urged, "Please refrain from baseless speculation and distorted interpretations to prevent misunderstandings that are not factual."
