NFL legend and ESPN commentator Troy Aikman unleashed criticism towards the Indianapolis Colts, who collapsed helplessly at home. The Colts, who had a slim hope of making the playoffs, disappointed fans as they were overwhelmed on both offense and defense by the San Francisco 49ers.

On the 23rd (Korean time), in the 2025 NFL Week 16 'Monday Night Football (MNF)' held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 48-27.

◆ Aikman: "You Can't Win with This Performance"

During the broadcast, Troy Aikman pointed out the Colts' poor defensive organization throughout the game. Especially in the crucial moments of the fourth quarter, when the Colts' defense failed to control the 49ers' offense at all, he stated, "The Colts defense is practically not on the field right now," and criticized, "It is difficult to show such a performance in front of home fans. There is no sense of urgency at all." Joe Buck, who was broadcasting alongside him, also highlighted the atmosphere of silence in the home crowd as the score gap widened, pointing out the Colts' downfall.

◆ 'Veteran' Rivers' Struggles and Painful Pick-Six

The Colts aimed for a turnaround with the recently returned 44-year-old veteran quarterback Philip Rivers at the helm. Rivers led the game closely with sharp passes in the first half, but could not withstand the strong pressure from the 49ers in the second half. Particularly at the end of the fourth quarter, a 74-yard interception return touchdown (Pick-6) allowed by 49ers linebacker Dee Winters became a decisive blow to their hopes of a comeback. Aikman commented on this moment, saying, "Rivers is back and doing his best, but he can't solve everything alone in a situation where the entire team's balance is collapsed."

◆ 49ers' Purdy Crowned 'King of Monday Night'

On the other hand, San Francisco's quarterback Brock Purdy had a 'career game' that day. Purdy threw 5 touchdown passes, leading the team to 48 points. This is the first record since Steve Young in 49ers franchise history and the first record in MNF history. Christian McCaffrey also contributed with 2 touchdowns to help secure the team's victory.

With this defeat, the Colts fell into a 5-game losing streak, effectively eliminating them from playoff contention. As Aikman pointed out, without addressing their "disastrous" defensive performance, the remaining season is expected to be tough.
