'I DOL I' Choi Soo-young, from Fan to Lawyer, Active as the Central Axis of the Story

Actress Choi Soo-young captivated the audience with her performance that oscillated between coolness and cheerfulness in the Genie TV original drama 〈I DOL I〉.

First released on the 22nd, 〈I DOL I〉 is a mystery courtroom romance that depicts the story of star lawyer Maeng Se-na, who is filled with fan spirit, defending her 'bias' idol Doraik, who has been accused of murder.

In this work, Choi Soo-young played the role of the protagonist Maeng Se-na, who has a dramatic twist, showcasing her ability to clearly imprint the work's color in just one episode. In the drama, Maeng Se-na, played by Choi Soo-young, is a cold figure known as the 'Devil's Advocate,' who takes on heinous criminal cases that others avoid and leads to victories. However, outside the courtroom, she lives a contrasting life as a 10-year 'fan' who fervently follows Doraik (Kim Jae-young), a member of the band 'Gold Boys.' Choi Soo-young maximized the character's dimensionality by setting her visuals, speech, and actions differently between the cold, intellectual lawyer and the pure fan who is disarmed in front of her favorite artist.

In the first broadcast, the fateful meeting between Maeng Se-na and Doraik, along with unexpected tragedy, heightened the tension of the drama. After failing to secure tickets for Doraik's solo concert, Maeng Se-na confronts a scalper selling tickets, and while rushing to the venue, she unexpectedly encounters Doraik, experiencing the joy of becoming a so-called 'successful fan.' However, this happiness is short-lived as Doraik's teammate Woo-seong (Ahn Woo-yeon) is found murdered, and Doraik is identified as a prime suspect, leading to a sudden twist in the situation. Ultimately, the scene where Maeng Se-na faces her bias, who has fallen into the role of a murder suspect, as a defender provided viewers with a strong sense of immersion.

Choi Soo-young skillfully led the rhythm of the drama with her adept control in the unique setting of a 'proving the innocence of a bias romance.' Her performance, which alternated between the cold demeanor of a lawyer and the outpouring of fan terminology that elicited empathy, amplified the drama's enjoyment.
