'Rising Star Actor' Lee Jun-hyuk is set to make a bold transformation by taking on the occult genre following his romantic comedy.
◆ 〈Crime City 3〉·〈Nawanbi〉 Followed by 〈Awakening〉 SBS announced on the 28th that "Actor Lee Jun-hyuk has been confirmed as the lead in the new drama 'Awakening' (written by Jang Yoon-mi, directed by Oh Joon-hyuk)." Targeting a 2027 broadcast, 〈Awakening〉 deals with a story set in the hell of entrance exams, where children, lured by performance-enhancing drugs, begin to hear the voices of the dead amidst jealousy and desire. It is an occult exorcism drama depicting the desperate struggle of a priest who risks his soul to save children in a school that has become a playground for evil spirits.
◆ The Exorcist Appears in the Hell of Entrance Exams Lee Jun-hyuk plays the role of Antonio, a new guiding priest assigned to Seongnyeong High School. Although he appears to be an ordinary priest on the outside, he is actually a skilled exorcist ordained by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Behind his seemingly indifferent exterior lies a delicate sensitivity and warm empathy, making him a seeker who has endured terrible pain and loneliness while fighting against evil spirits. He is expected to throw everything away to chase the entity that has drawn children into a race towards death as he confronts the bizarre incidents occurring at the school.
◆ The Meeting of SBS Occult and Lee Jun-hyuk This work is highly anticipated as it is a new project presented ambitiously by SBS, which opened a new horizon for Korean-style occult through the 2023 drama starring Kim Tae-ri, 〈Evil Spirit〉. Lee Jun-hyuk, who has shown a wide acting spectrum in dramas 〈Secret Forest〉, 〈60 Days, Designated Survivor〉, and the movie 〈Crime City 3〉, will challenge the occult genre for the first time since his debut with this 〈Awakening〉.
