The group ILLIT is drawing the attention of fans worldwide by announcing the release of a new album with a bold concept, right after successfully completing their first solo tour concert in Seoul.
◆ Surprise Announcement of New Album on April 30 and Confirmation of Title Track
ILLIT, consisting of Yoona, Minju, Mocha, Wonhee, and Iroha, announced their comeback news at the end of the last day of their first tour 'PRESS START' concert held on April 14 and 15 at the Ticketlink Live Arena (formerly Olympic Handball Gymnasium) in Songpa-gu, Seoul. According to their agency, ILLIT will return with their new album 'MAMIHLAPINATAPAI' on April 30, and the title track has been confirmed as 'It's Me'. As they enter the countdown to their comeback ahead of their 2nd anniversary, there is already a growing curiosity about what delicate and unique emotions and a level-up performance ILLIT will showcase through this new release.
◆ Unique Album Title Borrowed from Guinness World Records
The most talked-about aspect of the comeback news is the unique name of the new album. 'MAMIHLAPINATAPAI' is derived from the language of the Yaghan people of South America and is listed in the Guinness World Records as 'the longest word with the most difficult translation'. It refers to 'a subtle and urgent exchange of glances between two people, where one hopes the other will volunteer to do something that is necessary for both but that they themselves do not want to do'. This hints at ILLIT's unique narrative and concept, eliciting explosive reactions from global K-pop fans.
◆ Solid 'ILLIT Core' Proven by Seoul Concert and Expanding Global Activities
The Seoul concert, which served as a strong foundation for the comeback, recorded sold-out performances and additional opening of restricted view seats, proving ILLIT's powerful ticketing power. They showcased all tracks from mini albums 1 to 3 and single album 1 over approximately 120 minutes, leaving a clear impression of their unique 'ILLIT core' aesthetic with a kitschy pixel art production and game stage setup. ILLIT expressed their gratitude, saying, "Thanks to GLLIT (the fandom name), we were able to hit the start button well. We promised to work hard again as we approach our 2nd anniversary." After successfully warming up for their comeback, ILLIT plans to continue their 'global trend' activities with an Asia tour starting in June, following the release of their new album on April 30, which will include stops in Aichi, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hyogo, Tokyo, and Hong Kong in August.
