Netflix has set the release date for its Japanese original series 〈Soul Mate〉 as May 15 and released the official teaser trailer on the 28th.
〈Soul Mate〉 is a work that follows the fated connection two men—who have lived in different circumstances—develop over 10 years, with Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo as its backdrop. The story centers on Ryu (Isomura Hayato), a promising ice hockey player who leaves for Berlin carrying guilt, and Johan (Ok Taec-yeon), a Korean boxer who saves Ryu’s life when he’s in danger there.
For this series, Hajizume Shunki handled both the screenplay and direction. In addition to Isomura Hayato and Ok Taec-yeon, the main cast includes Ai Hashimoto, Kōshō Mizukami, Yutaro Furutachi, Ijaei, Ken Yasuda, Kaho Minami, and Tomokazu Miura. Production was handled by the Japanese production company ROBOT.
The series focuses on depicting how two characters with different languages and backgrounds build a sense of connection, beginning with an unexpected meeting, over the span of 10 years. The theme song is by STUTS&butaji, and singer AiNA THE END participates as a featured artist.
〈Soul Mate〉 is scheduled to be exclusively released worldwide via Netflix on May 15.
