The Pop Princess Freefalling Again—Legal Risks Put Back in the Spotlight
The pop star 'Britney Spears', who has long been loved by audiences around the world, once again faces the courts over 'drug and DUI' (driving under the influence) charges. The latest indictment, which even makes her past explanations seem inadequate, has stunned her global fan base.
'Abnormal Speeding' Caught in the Legal Net—and the Indictment
According to reports by major outlets such as The New York Times (NYT), the 'Ventura County District Attorney's Office' in California formally indicted 'Britney Spears' on 'drug and DUI' (driving under the influence) charges on the 30th of last month (local time). Prosecutors did not disclose the specific types of drugs she allegedly took to the public, but say they are confident in proving the allegations.
The case began on March 5, when 'abnormal high-speed driving' occurred on the road. Spears, who was stopped by police and arrested at the time, appeared to recognize the seriousness of the situation and voluntarily checked into a 'rehabilitation facility'. Her trial for this case will be held next month on the 4th at the 'Ventura County Superior Court'. However, officials confirmed that because this matter is classified as a 'misdemeanor', the defendant is not required to personally appear in court.
A Memoir Tainted by Falsehood? 'Drug Controversy' Reignites
Dominating the headlines in the 1990s and 2000s, Spears spent a long time at the center of numerous controversies over her 'unstable mental health' issues. An incident in 2007, when she attacked paparazzi vehicles with an umbrella while her hair was shaved, shocked the world. After that, she was under 'control' for 13 years under her father's legal guardianship, before finally regaining her freedom following a lengthy lawsuit that ended in 2021.
The biggest point of contention is what appears in her memoir, 'The Woman in Me', published in 2023. In the book, Spears flatly denied suspicions of drug abuse and claimed she only took 'Adderall', a medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). But with this new 'drug-driving indictment', her earlier explanations have lost credibility and brought renewed, fierce criticism once again to the forefront.
