A Netflix series, 〈Teach You a Lesson〉, which depicts the unrelenting efforts of a school authority protection unit that steps in on behalf of the victims and sets the school back on track, recorded 6,400,000 views in just three days (a figure calculated by dividing viewing time by the work’s total runtime) after its release on June 5 (Friday). It then took the No. 1 spot on the global TOP 10 non-English TV list. It is also showing global popularity, with No. 1 in 10 countries including South Korea, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, and making it onto the TOP 10 list in a total of 48 countries.

〈Teach You a Lesson〉 has been receiving praise from domestic and international media and viewers for its satisfying, pulse-pounding catharsis, fast-paced storytelling and the fun “tiki-taka” chemistry among its appealing characters. Domestic media said, “It adds a satisfying fantasy to realism and empathy. It was timely, and it captured both fun and emotion. It poses the kind of question this era really needs, delivering a deep resonance” (JoYnews24 reporter Park Jin-young). “It reemerged as a well-made fantasy action school drama that’s cheerful and satisfying, mixing action, comedy and thriller elements. Observers say it breaks through problems that are not easy to solve in real life with bold imagination and even raises weighty questions—suggesting it will become one of the biggest hot-button works of the year” (Seoul Economic reporter Yeon Seung). “The strong chemistry among the cast members—including Lee Mu-yeol as the lead, along with Lee Sung-min, Jin Ki-ju and Pyo Ji-hun—is also impressive. The actors’ performances, which look like a real team that has breathed together for a long time, are one of the strengths of 〈Teach You a Lesson〉” (TV Daily reporter Choi Ha-na) said it in praise.

Overseas media said, “One of the most clever, high-quality and addictive ‘satisfying comeuppance’ works released this year. 〈Teach You a Lesson〉 gives voice to the victims, strikes a chord with viewers, makes them furious at a reality where justice has disappeared, and delivers a huge catharsis when a solution is finally presented” (Forbes). “It delivers a message about the collapsed education field while also providing fun” (Decider). “A Korean drama has arrived that will shake viewers’ brain cells worldwide and deliver an enormous shock” (Excelsior), piling on nonstop praise.

The photos released together draw attention by capturing action scenes that deliver thrilling catharsis, along with a lively atmosphere on the set. First, stills show “Na Hwa-jin” (Kim Mu-yeol) behind the wheel with a relaxed expression, as well as the fearful faces of students in the back seat. The scene calls to mind a memorable moment when Na Hwa-jin taught those troublemaking students a lesson with his dazzling driving skills. The sight of Kim Mu-yeol taking on multiple opponents raises expectations for his bold action performance. Next, the images of Lee Sung-min chatting with a smile on set, and Kim Mu-yeol taking a cute pose, along with Jin Ki-ju and Pyo Ji-hun, fully convey the upbeat, friendly atmosphere that matches the cheerful tone of the work. From the moment Jin Ki-ju appears perched on the window as if he could jump out any second to the image of him hanging from a wire rope, viewers can glimpse the effort hidden behind the slick, freewheeling action he showcases as “Im Han-lim,” a character with unrestrained drive. In addition, stills of “Bong Geun-dae” (Pyo Ji-hun), equipped with computer parts, bring a smile by evoking his nerdy, brilliant office-official persona.

Netflix’s 〈Teach You a Lesson〉 contains a refreshing story about trying to restore the education field, built on a fresh premise of a fictional government agency called the School Authority Protection Bureau and the wide-ranging feats of distinctive characters who break conventional expectations. The series is streaming exclusively on Netflix.
