Jo In-sung Struggles to Survive in “HOPE”; Video of Character-Making to Release “Sung-gi” Edition

“I poured out all the energy I had, and filmed every scene with care, one by one.”

In this video, Jo In-sung can be seen throwing himself into the role of “Sung-gi,” a local young man in Ho-po Port who does whatever it takes to make money. Describing Sung-gi as “a character that reveals the grit to fight for survival,” Jo In-sung proved his standout presence not only through chase scenes that unfold as he moves between Retezat in Romania and sweeping national highways, but also by handling high-difficulty horseback action, including firing a gun in rapid succession while riding a galloping horse.

The film also maximizes audience immersion by vividly portraying both his vigilance against an unknown entity attacking the village and his survival instinct as he fights back with his whole body to stay alive. “I was thinking that to do a work like this, you have to come in with tremendous resolve, and I poured out all the energy I had and filmed every scene with care, one by one,” Jo In-sung said, adding that he will unveil inventive action perfected through sheer passion.

Overseas media and critics have praised Jo In-sung for his high-difficulty action performance that leaves nothing to his own body, drawing attention to him. International Business Times said, “Jo In-sung injects intense energy into his role as the chaser.” Ioncinema said, “The action scene in which Jo In-sung appears on horseback is the best sequence in this film. The character he played has taken root as a figure who steals the audience’s focus with a strong survival instinct,” praising Jo In-sung’s passionate performance as he perfectly became the character. On top of that, the assessment that it is “the birth of a truly crazy movie that has never been seen in more than 100 years of Korean cinema” (Sports Chosun’s George Young) adds even more anticipation for the intense cinematic experience that HOPE, which will be shown, delivers.

Meanwhile, the character-making video for HOPE is set to release the “Beom-seok” edition following the previously unveiled “Seong-ae” edition and the “Sung-gi” edition released this time.

HOPE tells the story of “Beom-seok,” an office manager at the Ho-po Port 출장소장 in the Demilitarized Zone, who begins after hearing from local residents that a tiger has appeared and encountering an unbelievable reality as the entire village goes into emergency mode. Gathering enthusiastic acclaim from domestic and international media, critics, and audiences alike, HOPE is capturing theatergoers this summer and is currently showing nationwide in theaters on an extensive schedule.
