'Spider-Man 4' first weekend 510 billion-won jackpot… aims for the 'Endgame' throne

Global total grosses top 1.33 trillion won, South Korea’s theaters draw 3 million viewers
The world’s forgotten hero has returned to take complete control of the global movie theater market. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (hereafter 'Spider-Man 4'), which opens a new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, centered the box-office surge after raking in $355 million (about 510 billion won) in earnings during its first North American weekend alone.
On the 2nd (local time), according to 'Box Office Mojo'’s official tally, 'Spider-Man 4', playing in 4,487 theaters across North America as of the 31st of last month, jumped straight into second place for all-time opening scores. It is a figure that closes in on the landmark of the long-standing No. 1 2019 film 'Avengers: Endgame' ($357 million) by a gap of just $2 million. The performance of the previous installment, 2021’s 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' ($260 million), was already easily surpassed.
Above all, the most encouraging factor is the overwhelming profitability. The film’s pure production budget is on the order of $225 million, and with ticket sales in North America during its first weekend, it quickly recouped the entire production cost in one go—excluding marketing expenses.
The global box-office indicators are also explosive. Overseas markets outside North America pulled in $572 million, pushing the worldwide total gross to $927 million (about 1.33 trillion won). South Korea’s film market response is equally strong. After just five days, cumulative attendance surpassed 3 million, setting a new record for the shortest timeframe to achieve box-office success among this year’s released titles.
Behind this runaway success is unanimous praise from both critics and the public. On the trusted review site 'Rotten Tomatoes', critics’ freshness rating stands at 90% and the audience popcorn score at 98%. In 'CinemaScore'’s exit poll as well, it earned the top grade of A, proving both artistic merit and entertainment value.
In this 'Spider-Man 4', 'Tom Holland'’s Peter Parker finds himself completely erased from the world’s memory, trapped in strict isolation, and faces yet another massive threat—delivering a weighty story in which he is reborn as a true hero.
