The return of “adult Spider-Man”… A box-office record with 3 million admissions reached in 5 days
This year’s theater box-office landscape has been completely upended. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (hereafter “Spider-Man 4”), Marvel’s core IP and a Sony Pictures ambition, surpassed 3 million cumulative admissions on day 5—on Feb. 2—setting the fastest box-office run among 2024 releases.
According to distributor “Sony Pictures,” the film drew 1 million viewers within just two days after it hit theaters on Jan. 29. It then demonstrated extraordinary ticket power by adding another 1 million viewers again within only 24 hours after reaching the 2 million mark the day before.
At the heart of this explosive run is a deeper, more intensifying narrative. This installment shines a close light on “Peter Parker,” a figure erased completely from the world’s memory, as he rises into a true hero by confronting crushing loneliness and the heavy weight of responsibility. Fans loyal to the series are going all in on the intense yet mature performance of the lead actor “Tom Holland”, who has shed his boyish look and grown into the so-called “adult Spider-Man,” helping drive voluntary repeat viewings.
The “CGV Egg Index”, which directly reflects real-audience satisfaction, is also holding steady at a top-tier figure of 96%. As of 5 p.m. that day, the real-time ticket sales rate stands at 48.3%, with some 421,000 would-be viewers waiting to enter theaters to watch “Spider-Man 4.”
For the next five days, while the theaters are expected to be tied up in a spider’s web before the release of the blockbuster new work “Odyssey,” by world-renowned director “Christopher Nolan,” the box office is expected to maintain a dominant long-run solo hold by “Spider-Man 4.”
