Original starring Shim Eun-ha returns after 33 years, with exclusive release on TVING next year confirmed

A landmark Korean horror drama is being revived after 33 years. TVING, an online video service (OTT), officially announced on the 15th that it will release 'M:Reboot', an original series starring actors 'Jung Chae-yeon' and 'Jung Gun-joo', next year.

The new series reimagines 'M', the legendary summer horror special that aired on MBC in 1994 and captivated South Korea. Starring Shim Eun-ha, the original featured groundbreaking visual effects, including green eyes, and innovative direction. It recorded an average viewership rating of 38.6% and a remarkable peak rating of '52.2%'.

'M:Reboot' is a horror thriller that closely follows the bizarre events that unfold when a mysterious personality awakens inside Marie, a promising high school student and ballerina. Jung Chae-yeon has been cast as Marie, the role played by Shim Eun-ha in the original. She will portray ordinary ballerina Marie, the enigmatic personality M hidden within her and Jenny, a brilliant surgeon shrouded in mystery, taking on the unprecedented challenge of playing 'three roles in one' for the first time since her debut.

Jung Gun-joo will play Ji-seok, an ace detective who heightens the drama's tension. He will relentlessly uncover the truth behind a series of bizarre incidents and anchor the story at its center.

The production team adds to the project's credibility. Hong Eun-mi, who demonstrated intricate plotting in the films 'Missing: The Disappeared Woman' and the recently released 'The Hidden Face,' will co-write the series with newcomer writer Lee Jung-eun. Lim Dae-woong, whose distinctive direction in the thriller film 'To Sir, with Love' and the drama 'Night Has Come' has earned recognition, will direct, signaling the arrival of a polished horror production.
