Gallagher brothers end 16-year silence, signaling a global ticketing frenzy

The “legendary Britpop band” Oasis has officially announced a 38-day world tour. After a dramatic reunion 16 years in the making that shook the global music industry, the band will return to the stage next year and once again herald rock’s revival.

Oasis posted a characteristically sardonic yet supremely confident message on its official social media accounts on the 14th (local time): “We have ended our long period of reflection. We declare that Britain’s toxic popular culture has finally been normalized, and we are returning to lift the public’s spirits.”

Formed in 1991 around brothers Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher, Oasis is a legendary band that has sold more than 90 million records worldwide. The group produced countless classics, including “Don’t Look Back in Anger” (Don't Look Back in Anger) and “Live Forever” (Live Forever), but abruptly broke up in 2009 after an intense feud between the brothers.

After the surprise reunion announcement last year, Britain’s ticket market became a full-blown battleground. Endless queues formed as traffic overwhelmed ticketing websites, while resale prices soared. The fallout was severe enough that the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) opened an investigation into ticket seller Ticketmaster over dynamic pricing.

To prevent a repeat of that chaos, next year’s tour will introduce an extraordinary measure: a pre-registration system. Only fans selected in advance through a lottery and granted the right to buy will be able to purchase tickets. The system signals a strong determination to root out scalpers and automated purchasing bots.

Meanwhile, the Asian tour dates that had raised expectations among fans in South Korea were excluded from the announcement. The tour will focus on Western markets, beginning in the United Kingdom and Ireland and continuing through major European countries including Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands, as well as U.S. cities such as Boston and Las Vegas.
