Disney+ sets 2027 debut for 'Love Athlete Village,' Korea's first physical-dating reality show

'The Gentlemen's League' producer Sung Chi-kyung, 'Kick a Goal' writer Jang Jung-hee and other second-generation sports-variety veterans join forces

Global streaming platform Disney+ is set to unveil the all-new original variety series 'Love Athlete Village' in 2027. The series promises a hybrid reality format that goes beyond simple emotional exchanges to combine humanity's primal competitive drive with love.

'Love Athlete Village' follows athletes with formidable physiques and fierce competitive instincts as they move into a fictional athletes' village, compete in extreme physical challenges and pursue love. Breaking from the formulas of existing dating programs, the series seeks to stand out with an original format that combines 'sports survival' and 'romance.'

The project gains credibility from the meeting of some of the industry's best-known 'sports-variety heavyweights.' Producer Sung Chi-kyung, who successfully led JTBC's flagship variety show 'The Gentlemen's League,' and writer Jang Jung-hee, who built the world of SBS's 'Kick a Goal,' are taking the creative lead. The team is expected to portray the raw emotions that emerge amid fierce, sweat-soaked competition with both energy and nuance.
