The model of positive influence: A commitment to giving that has continued since her debut

Singer and actress ‘IU’ marked her debut anniversary with another act of generosity, drawing widespread attention. According to her agency, ‘EDAM Entertainment’, on the 18th, ‘IU’ donated a total of 200 million won under the name ‘IUENA’, a combination of her name and her fandom’s name, ‘Uaena’.

The donation was divided equally among four organizations — the Korea Social Welfare Society, Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital, Heart-Heart Foundation and Habitat for Humanity Korea — with each receiving 50 million won to help build practical support networks for socially vulnerable groups. The specific uses also reflect ‘IU’s’ close attention to need. The funds will support young adults preparing for independent living as they enter society, rehabilitation treatment for children and adolescents facing economic hardship, living expenses and mental health recovery for young women preparing for independence, and improvements to the aging housing conditions of national merit honorees. The donations address blind spots across society from multiple angles.

From birthdays to the holiday season, a record of giving that never stops

‘IU’s’ philanthropy is more than a one-time event. Every year, on meaningful occasions including her debut anniversary, birthday and the year-end holiday season, she has shared her warmth in the name of ‘IUENA’, helping establish a new model for charitable giving.

This year’s efforts alone highlight both the scale and sincerity of her giving. After donating 100 million won for children and adolescents on the most recent Children’s Day, she gave 300 million won on her birthday, May 16, bringing her total donations this year to 600 million won returned to society. ‘IU’, now firmly established as an icon of philanthropy, continues to make a deep impression across society.
