〈The Remarried Empress〉 is a sweeping romantic fantasy epic about Navier (Shin Min-a), the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire, who is told by Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon)—who has fallen for Rashta (Lee Se-young), a runaway slave—that he wants a divorce. Rather than simply accept, Navier asks for permission to remarry Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.

The newly released stills feature Lady Eliza (Lee Bong-ryun) and Marquis Lant (Nam Yoon-ho), who serve the empress and emperor at their side, as well as McKenna (Choi Dae-hoon), Heinrey’s secretary and cousin. Also drawing attention are Lady Alvani (Jung Young-joo), who seeks power within the imperial family to restore her house’s fortunes, and Viscount Roteschu (Park Ho-san), who knows the past Rashta would rather keep hidden. Each character has their own distinct relationships and story.

Lady Eliza, head maid of the Western Palace and a steadfast presence at Empress Navier’s side, stands out for her calm, composed demeanor. Even amid the palace’s complex circumstances, she keeps a close eye on Navier, supporting her like a mother at times and like an older sister at others. Marquis Lant, who serves Emperor Sovieshu, handles the imperial household’s affairs, great and small, with unfailing composure. Because of his duties involving the empress, Lant often crosses paths with Eliza. What the two will be like whenever the relationship between the emperor and empress is shaken is another point to watch.

McKenna, secretary and cousin to Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom, is the only person who can nag the free-spirited prince. Heinrey’s unpredictable behavior is a constant source of worry for him. Their easy rapport as family, beyond the prince-and-secretary relationship, promises plenty of fun. Lady Alvani takes Rashta in as her adopted daughter in an effort to restore her fallen house, and relentlessly works to isolate Empress Navier. The relationship between Alvani and Rashta, each driven by her own desires, raises questions about the tensions they will bring to the imperial household.

Finally, Viscount Roteschu arrives at the palace, drawing attention with one eye hidden behind an eyepatch. He is Rashta’s former owner and knows every detail of the past she wants to conceal. His appearance before Rashta, now living a new life, raises questions about the repercussions to come.

With Lee Bong-ryun, Nam Yoon-ho, Choi Dae-hoon, Jung Young-joo and Park Ho-san joining the cast, 〈The Remarried Empress〉 promises to add further depth to the story surrounding the imperial household. The series will stream exclusively on Disney+, with episodes 1–4 premiering on Wednesday, November 4, followed by two episodes each Wednesday, for a total of 10 episodes.
