A meeting of the writer of ‘Jeong Do-jeon’ and the director of ‘Reborn Rich’ promises a finely crafted historical drama
JTBC’s new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘God’s Beads’ will begin its epic run on Dec. 5.
‘God’s Beads’ is set in Goryeo in 1258, as war with the Mongols rages. This traditional historical drama offers an in-depth look at the desperate struggle of an escort team sent to find the Gwaneum Bosal, a sacred Buddhist relic meant to protect the country in its hour of crisis, and the story of a princess determined to rescue them.
Ahn Bo-hyun stars as Baek Gyeol, the special operations commander leading the escort team, delivering a performance with commanding presence. Lee Sung-min plays Choi Gu, commander of the Yabyeolcho, Goryeo’s special forces, and is set to anchor the drama. The two actors’ commanding on-screen chemistry has already raised expectations ahead of the premiere.
The creative team is equally impressive. Jung Hyun-min, whose writing has been proven in major historical dramas including ‘Jeong Do-jeon’ and ‘The Nokdu Flower’, wrote the screenplay, while Jung Dae-yoon, acclaimed for his stylish direction on ‘Reborn Rich’ and ‘W’, is at the helm. The pairing promises a finely crafted historical drama.
Alongside its domestic broadcast, the series will reach viewers around the world through global streaming service ‘Amazon Prime Video’. All eyes are on what kind of impact ‘God’s Beads’ will make as it opens a new chapter for K-historical dramas.
