Will BLACKPINK’s Jennie Make Global Waves With Her First Animated Film Soundtrack, ‘Steps’?

Sisters’ bond takes center stage at the climax… Film earns a nomination at a global awards show ahead of its release

Jennie of the group BLACKPINK will sing on the soundtrack of an animated film for the first time since her debut, through a Netflix original production.

Jennie’s agency, OA Entertainment, announced that she will officially release “Someone to Hold,” a track from the soundtrack (OST) of the Netflix original animated film “Steps”, on major music platforms at 2 p.m. on the 6th.

This marks the first time Jennie has participated as a solo vocalist in a feature-length animated film music project. “I had so much fun working on a song for an animated film for the first time,” Jennie said. “I loved the characters’ warm hearts and distinct personalities, and I’m happy I could be part of their world, even in a small way.”

The film “Steps,” which begins streaming on the 20th, offers a fresh take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella. It follows the adventures and growth of Lilith, one of Cinderella’s stepsisters, after she gets her hands on the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand.

Sung by Jennie, “Someone to Hold” is a lyrical ballad featured in the climactic scene, where the story’s emotional arc reaches its peak. Its delicate vocals capture the characters’ close bond and solidarity, deepening the film’s emotional resonance.

The song has already demonstrated its musical merit ahead of its official release. It has drawn attention in the global music market after receiving an official nomination in the Song - Animated Film category at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA), a leading awards show for music in visual media.
