An animated soundtrack’s remarkable run shakes up the global music market
“Golden,” the signature soundtrack song from Netflix’s original animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” is enjoying an explosive run on the “Official Singles Chart,” one of the world’s most prestigious pop charts.
According to the Official Charts published on the 6th (local time), “Golden” fell 12 places from the previous week to No. 61 on the Official Singles Chart Top 100, marking an astonishing “72 consecutive weeks” on the chart. More than a year after its release, the song continues its remarkable long run, demonstrating sustained streaming demand from listeners around the world.
“Golden” previously reached No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart dated August 1 last year, astonishing the global music industry. It was an unprecedented achievement: the first K-pop song to top the chart in 13 years, since “Gangnam Style” by “Psy,” which sparked a global sensation in 2012.
“Golden”’s success, fueled by the film’s global sensation, also extended to major awards shows. The song won Best Original Song at both the Academy Awards (Oscars) and the Golden Globe Awards, then earned Best Song Written for Visual Media at the “Grammy Awards,” one of the world’s most prestigious popular music award ceremonies, cementing its artistic and commercial success.
Meanwhile, this week’s No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart went to “Jamie Miller,” a British singer-songwriter, with “BABYDOLL.” A new release from top American rock band Queens of the Stone Age entered the Official Albums Chart at No. 1.
