Hong Kong Retro Movie Tour ③ ‘Kowloon Walled City: The Untold Stories’ — The Kowloon Walled City Park Set That Revives Memories of Hong Kong Cinema

Erased in 1993, the Kowloon Walled City — left behind as “Kowloon Walled City Park” — was a bleak illegal residential zone where no sliver of sunlight ever reached.
When director Jingle Bao-rui’s 〈Kowloon Walled City: The Untold Stories〉 (hereinafter 〈Kowloon Walled City〉, 2024) hit theaters in Hong Kong in 2024, it set a record for the biggest box-office success in Hong Kong history.

Hong Kong Retro Movie Tour ② “Comedy King,” Stephen Chow’s Film Where You Never Get Tired of Just Staring at the Sea All Day at Sek O Beach

Among Hong Kong films, it seems there is none that so deeply absorbs the mood of a place as much as Comedy King. With the exception of the film sets and a nightclub or two, it was shot almost entirely at Sek O Beach, located at the far southeastern tip of Hong Kong Island.
[Joo Seong-cheol’s Locker] Do You Know the Origin of Woody in “Toy Story”?

[Joo Seong-cheol’s Locker] Do You Know the Origin of Woody in “Toy Story”?

I can’t stop fixating on the objects in the movies. I get pulled into deep thought over why—director, cinematographer, production designer, maybe even an actor—someone put that object in front of the camera. “Joo Seong-cheol’s Locker” is a record of the objects from films that landed in my eyes, as if they gently stepped over them.
〈Toy Story 2〉 (1999)’s opening begins as if it were a scene from the 〈Star Wars〉 series. And in the moment of crisis, Woody recites the lines “Think about it, think about it,” like the way Dong-su (Kim Sang-kyung) does in 〈Theater Jeon〉 (2005) or Yeon-hong (Son Ye-jin) does in 〈No Secrets〉 (2016).

[Sung Chan-eol's Comics] 「Kindergarten WARS」 Turns Body Count Into Bizarre Rom-Com Fun

I'm obsessed with subculture. If a story or character feels fresh—whether in film, webtoons, games, comics, or animation—I check it out. Comics opened the world of fandom to me, and now I'm a kid-at-heart adult who reads paper volumes as e-books and webtoons on my phone. But it's less fun alone. I write [Sung Chan-eol's Comics] to share what’s more enjoyable experienced together, from the perspective of an enthusiastic generalist.
If someone asked me to sum up this comic, I'd probably hesitate and finally say, "It's fun. " It is fun. But it's not easy to explain. When I try to list impressions I come up with words that don't normally go together—funny, sweet, scary, brutal—so it's hard to convey.

Interview: Gu Kyo-hwan Says ‘I Want to Beat Up Seo Yeong-cheol’ Is the Highest Praise for ‘Colony’

It’s fair to call this "Gu Kyo-hwan’s year. " From 《If We》, which helped spark a melodrama boom, to the recently ended series 《Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Sense of Worthlessness》 (hereafter 《Mojamussa》), and the film 《Colony》, released on May 21 and which has surpassed about 2.

[Lee Hwa-jeong’s Deep Detox] “Keep Running Without Rest With an Athlete’s Grit.” Meeting Actress Yeon Lee, Star of “Tango at Dawn” and “Gyeongju Trip” ③

A talk that approaches the actress with deep, measured breaths, like detoxing. Film journalist Lee Hwa-jeong speaks with the actors she has met.
▶ The meeting with actress Yeon Lee continues in Part 2. Unlike how she appears—bright-minded and bold in taking on challenges—what I heard is that the reason she started acting in the first place was a process meant to heal her fear.

[Interview] Yeon Sang-ho on 〈Gunche〉②: 'Seo Young-chul Is a Demagogue and the Swarm's Error ... I Wanted to Show the Fear of a Society Bound Only by Universal Thinking.'

※ The interview with 〈Gunche〉 director Yeon Sang-ho continues from Part 1. It's been 10 years since 〈Train to Busan〉. Did returning to zombies come with any pressure. "I didn't come in thinking, 'I have to do something new.
