Web Novel Adaptation 'Omniscient Reader' Tops Box Office on Opening Day

The movie 〈Omniscient Reader〉 (hereafter 〈Omniscient Reader〉), based on a web novel, has topped the box office on its opening day, receiving enthusiastic attention from audiences.

According to the integrated ticket sales network on the 24th, 〈Omniscient Reader〉 attracted over 122,000 viewers the previous day, achieving a revenue share of 44.6% and securing the number one spot in the daily box office.

〈Omniscient Reader〉 is a fantasy thriller that brings the fictional world of the serialized novel into reality. It features popular actors such as Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin, and Nana, and is directed by Kim Byung-woo, who also directed 〈The Terror Live〉 and 〈PMC: The Bunker〉.

Audience reactions have been mixed. The CGV Egg Index recorded a high score of 85%, indicating overall positive reviews. In particular, the fresh material and immersive direction have received praise. However, some have expressed disappointment that key elements of the extensive original work were not adequately captured in the film adaptation. Additionally, opinions on the quality of the computer graphics (CG) are divided among viewers.

The previous box office leader, 〈F1: The Movie〉, starring Brad Pitt, has fallen to second place with around 40,000 viewers. This film has recorded a cumulative audience of over 2,018,000, surpassing the 2 million mark.

As of 9:30 AM on the 24th, the reservation rate shows that 〈Omniscient Reader〉 is leading with 21.2% (approximately 93,000 reserved viewers). Following it is the webtoon adaptation starring Jo Jung-seok, 〈Zombie Daughter〉, with 17.8%, and the new Marvel Studios release 〈Fantastic Four: A New Beginning〉, which opens on the same day, showing a reservation rate of 16.7%.
