K-pop's largest agency, HYBE, announced on the 23rd that it will collaborate with Hollywood major studio Paramount Pictures to co-produce a K-pop themed feature film. This marks the first instance of a Hollywood major studio fully producing a film in Korea, shocking the industry.
The film aims for a theatrical release in early 2027 and features a Korean-American teenager dreaming of debuting in a K-pop girl group as the protagonist. Notably, Yoon Ji-young, who gained attention for her voice acting in 'K-Pop Demon Hunters', and popular singer Eric Nam will star, generating buzz.
The production team will begin filming in Korea from mid-September, conducting the entire production process in Korea. This is interpreted as a strategic move by Hollywood to respond to the rapid growth of the Asian entertainment market.
Recently, the soundtrack of 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has achieved remarkable success on the Billboard charts, leading to an explosive increase in global interest in K-pop content. In fact, HUNTR/X's 'Golden' climbed to 6th place on the Billboard Hot 100, proving the strength of K-pop.
James Shin, President of HYBE America, emphasized that 'this film is a historic project that will showcase the passion, artistry, and global influence of K-pop to the world.' Industry experts predict that this collaboration will be a new turning point for the K-pop industry.
