〈Shrek 5〉 has announced a release delay.
〈Shrek 5〉 is a representative work and franchise of DreamWorks Animation Studio, and it is the first new release in over a decade since 〈Shrek Forever After〉 in 2010. It is known to be the true final installment of the 〈Shrek〉 series, with returning cast members including Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy.
However, unfortunately, it seems we will need to be more patient to meet 〈Shrek 5〉. According to the media outlet 'Variety', 〈Shrek 5〉 originally scheduled for release in December 2026 has moved its release date to June 2027. The exact reason has not been disclosed, but it seems to consider the strong performance of animations in the summer market over the past few years. As a result of moving 〈Shrek 5〉 to June, the distributor Universal has advanced the release of Illumination Studio's new animated film, originally set for June 2027, to April.
The exact story of 〈Shrek 5〉 has not yet been revealed. Walt Dohrn, who directed the 〈Trolls〉 series, Conrad Vernon, who directed 〈Shrek 2〉, and co-director Brad Ableson of 〈Minions 2〉 are at the helm.
