Hollywood legend actor Sam Elliott and Billy Bob Thornton are reuniting as a father and son in the hit drama 'Landman' Season 2 on Paramount+. The two actors are creating the core emotional line of 'Landman' and leaving a deep impression on viewers.
Reunion After 50 Years, Special Offer from Taylor Sheridan
In Season 2, Sam Elliott plays the role of T.L. Norris, the father of the protagonist Tommy Norris, played by Thornton. This role was directly offered to Elliott by director Taylor Sheridan through text, marking Elliott's first significant acting project since '1883' in 2021.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Elliott shared his thoughts on returning after a long time, stating, "'1883' was a gift on the page. Since then, I have not worked due to personal issues and health problems."
Thornton expressed about working with Elliott, saying, "Scenes with Sam are really easy. We are just two men who empathize with each other," adding, "The hardest part is that I feel bad personally when I have to say something bad to Sam because I love him so much."
Regarding the 11-year age difference between the two actors, which could make the father-son roles awkward, Thornton explained, "If you look at film history, there are many cases where parents and children are of similar ages," and added, "When you see Sam in a wheelchair and me walking around, you think, 'Oh, that's his father.' This is not a science experiment; it's a 10-hour movie."
Character Setup Hinting at a Healing Journey
The character T.L. that Elliott plays appears to be in a mentally and physically broken state. Elliott described the character, saying, "He has not overcome the loss of his wife, has waited his whole life for her to return, and because of that, his relationship with his son (Thornton) has deteriorated." Thornton hinted at future developments, stating, "We will have difficult moments of healing."
In Season 2, Andy Garcia appears as the main villain, increasing the tension. Thornton expressed satisfaction with working on Season 2, saying, "Working with long-time friends like Garcia, Demi Moore, and Sam Elliott feels like being with old friends."
'Landman' depicts the story of crisis manager Tommy Norris navigating complex personal and professional relationships against the backdrop of the oil industry in West Texas. Season 1 attracted 5.2 million viewers upon its release in November 2024, marking the highest series debut on Paramount+ in two years.
