Appeared in a Black Suit Looking Gaunt... Regarding Return Timing, "Undecided"
Taichi Kokubun, a member of the popular Japanese group TOKIO and beloved multi-entertainer, has finally spoken out after six months regarding the past controversy over 'compliance violations'.
On the 26th, Kokubun held an emergency press conference in Tokyo, making his first official appearance since leaving the flagship variety program 'The! Tetsuwan! DASH!!' on NTV last June. He appeared in a dark suit and black horn-rimmed glasses, looking somewhat gaunt, and as soon as he took the stage, he bowed at a 90-degree angle and could not lift his head for a long time.
◆ The Broadcasting Company Claimed "Privacy Protection"... Was the Reality a 'Sex Scandal'?
Earlier in June, Hiroyuki Fukuda, president of NTV, announced Kokubun's departure from the program, stating, "Multiple instances of compliance violations have been confirmed in the past." At that time, the company refrained from disclosing specific details of the violations, citing "protection of the privacy of those involved," which led to rampant speculation in the industry.
The silence was broken by a weekly magazine. Recently, 'Bunshun Online' revealed through investigative reporting that Kokubun had engaged in intimidating behavior (power harassment) towards past production staff, and particularly committed inappropriate obscene acts (sexual harassment) against two female staff members, shocking the public.
◆ Kokubun "Apologizes to the Injured Parties"... Effectively Acknowledges the Reported Content
During the press conference, Kokubun avoided specific descriptions of his actions but clearly mentioned the existence of victims, effectively acknowledging the allegations.
With a trembling voice, he stated, "I want to sincerely apologize to the individuals who have suffered irreparable harm due to my reckless and inappropriate behavior, even though it is too late," and he shed tears. He continued, "I am truly sorry for causing great worry and trouble to my fans and everyone involved who believed in and supported me," bowing his head again.
This response contrasts sharply with some past celebrities who evaded responsibility by claiming "I don't remember" or "it was a misunderstanding," but it remains uncertain whether the six months of silence can quell public anger.
◆ Agency "Delegates Responsibility to Him"... Uncertain Return Amid Cold Public Opinion
Kokubun's agency maintained a cautious stance regarding the press conference, stating, "As this is a sensitive matter related to personal privacy, the responsibility for explanation is delegated to him."
Industry insiders predict that Kokubun's future activities will not be easy to resume. Especially since the 'friendly and sincere MC' image he has built over the years has taken a severe hit due to this sexual scandal allegation. There were no specific mentions of future activity plans or return timing during the press conference either.
