The 'legend' of the Korean film industry, veteran actress Kim Ji-mi (real name Kim Myung-ja), has passed away at the age of 85. The Korean Film Artists Association announced this news, expressing great sorrow in the film industry.

Born in 1940, Kim Ji-mi debuted in Director Kim Ki-young's 'Twilight Train' (1957) and appeared in over 370 films (her claim of over 700 films) until the 1990s, leading the 'Renaissance' era of Korean cinema.

She rose to stardom with 'Star in My Heart' (1958) and left numerous hits such as 'Jang Hee-bin' (1961), 'Fire Butterfly' (1965). In particular, she captivated audiences with her femme fatale charm in 'Fire Butterfly'.

Kim Ji-mi was also recognized for her acting skills, winning the Grand Bell Award for Best Actress for 'Land' (1974) and 'Promise of the Flesh' (1975), 'Gilsoddeum' (1985). Especially in 'Gilsoddeum', she showcased mature acting skills and received critical acclaim.

In 1985, she established 'Jimi Film' and worked as a producer, producing seven films including 'Ticket' (1986). Additionally, she contributed to the development of Korean cinema as a film administrator, serving as the chairperson of the Korean Film Artists Association and a member of the Korean Film Council.

In 2010, she was inducted into the 'Hall of Fame for Film Artists', honoring her achievements. At the 2019 Busan International Film Festival, she expressed her thoughts, saying, "As an actress and in life, I am nearing my final destination."

Her tumultuous life drew public attention due to her marriages and divorces with Director Hong Seong-ki, Choi Mu-ryong, and Na Hoon-a, and she was often compared to Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor.
