Netflix Embraces Barstool Sports... "A Game-Changer to Halt YouTube's Dominance"

Three Popular Podcasts, Including 'Pardon My Take', to Exclusively Supply Video from 2026; Audio Will Remain on Spotify and Apple, Video on Netflix... "Hybrid Strategy" to Chase YouTube's 31% Market Share... Aggressive Moves Following Bill Simmons and iHeart

"Dominate the Video Podcast Market." Global OTT giant Netflix has officially declared war on the 'video podcast' market dominated by YouTube. Netflix is teaming up with the sports media powerhouse Barstool Sports to significantly enhance its content lineup.

On the 17th (local time), Netflix officially announced a multi-year exclusive partnership with Barstool Sports. As a result, Barstool's flagship programs will be exclusively streamed on Netflix starting in early 2026.

◆ Securing North America's Top-Tier Content, Including 'Pardon My Take'

The agreement brings a total of three programs to Netflix. ▲ Barstool's flagship show hosted by Big Cat and PFT Commenter, 'Pardon My Take''Spittin' Chiclets', featuring NHL stars Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette's engaging banter ▲ 'The Ryen Russillo Show', hosted by former ESPN star Ryan Russillo. These are 'killer content' with over 1 million loyal subscribers combined on YouTube. Netflix plans to exclusively provide all new episodes and key archive videos to attract the existing YouTube audience to its platform.

◆ "Video on Netflix, Audio on Spotify"... A Clever Dual Strategy

Notably, the distribution method is worth mentioning. The video version will only be available on Netflix, while the audio version can still be listened to on platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. This is interpreted as a 'hybrid strategy' that prevents the existing audio fandom from leaving while attracting viewers who seek visual entertainment into the Netflix subscription ecosystem. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy stated, "We hope to bring new viewers to each platform through our partnership with Netflix."

◆ "Take Down YouTube"... Netflix's Ambition

The industry interprets this agreement as a clear move by Netflix to counter YouTube. Currently, YouTube leads the global podcast market with a 31% share, followed by Spotify (27%) and Apple (15%). Recently, Netflix has signed contracts for 16 shows, including the 'Bill Simmons Podcast' with Spotify and 15 shows with iHeartMedia, including 'The Breakfast Club'. Lauren Smith, Netflix's vice president, stated, "We will provide the unfiltered commentary and humor that members crave," expressing the intention to secure over 30 major podcasts by 2026 and shake up the video podcast market.
