tvN 'Second Signal' Broadcast Uncertain... "We Will Find the Best Solution Even If It Takes Time"

The production company has officially stated for the first time regarding the tvN drama 〈Second Signal〉, which had an uncertain broadcast due to actor Jo Jin-woong's juvenile offender controversy.

A tvN official stated on the 19th, "To preserve the value of Signal, we will make every effort to find the optimal solution for the work and the viewers, even if it takes some time." This statement comes about two weeks after Jo Jin-woong announced his retirement due to the juvenile offender controversy.

tvN explained, "'Second Signal' is a work that has been carefully prepared with the heart towards viewers who have waited 10 years since the previous broadcast, aiming for a summer release in 2026," adding, "It is a project that involved numerous staff, actors, and stakeholders from planning to production."

However, seemingly aware of the viewers' concerns regarding the Jo Jin-woong controversy, they added, "We deeply empathize with the disappointment and worries of the viewers," expressing a "heavy and regretful heart."

On the 5th, allegations arose that Jo Jin-woong committed a crime during his youth and received juvenile protection measures, raising the possibility of cancellation for the broadcast of 〈Second Signal〉. This statement can be interpreted as leaving the possibility of future release open, even if the timing is delayed.

〈Second Signal〉 is a sequel to the highly popular tvN drama 〈Signal〉 (2016), which aired in 2016. The previous work, which involves communication between the past and present through walkie-talkies to solve cold cases, was scripted by Kim Eun-hee, drawing significant attention.

The sequel also features the original cast from season 1, including Kim Hye-soo, Jo Jin-woong, and Lee Je-hoon, raising expectations. However, it is currently facing unexpected difficulties due to the Jo Jin-woong controversy, despite the high interest from fans after 10 years since the previous broadcast.
