The keywords symbolizing the Korean music scene in 2025 were the overwhelming power of 'Stray Kids' and the dazzling resurgence of artist 'Woodz'. According to the 2025 Circle Chart year-end summary released by the Korea Music Content Association, Stray Kids took the honor of being No. 1 in the album category, while Woodz topped the digital category.

Stray Kids dominates the album charts… 'Three Million' record

The boy group Stray Kids solidified their position as the album king with their regular album 〈KARMA〉, which recorded sales of approximately 3.39 million copies. This is the only album released this year to surpass the 3 million mark. Stray Kids also showcased their strength by placing two albums in the top 3, with their mini-album 〈DO IT〉 (2.24 million copies) ranking 3rd on the annual chart.

Following them, Seventeen's 〈Happy Birthday〉 (2.55 million copies) took 2nd place, while ENHYPEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and others also made it to the top ranks. This year, a total of 18 albums recorded sales of over 1 million copies, showing a slight decrease compared to the previous year (22 albums). Notably, among girl groups, only IVE and aespa achieved single album million-seller status, highlighting the polarization in the album market.

The digital market is a 'resurgence' phenomenon… Woodz's 〈Drowning〉 myth

On the digital charts, Woodz's 〈Drowning〉 caused a stir by taking the annual No. 1 spot, surpassing new songs. Released in April 2023, this track captured the public's attention again through performance videos and social media algorithms, showing consistent strength across all metrics such as streaming and downloads.

The top 10 songs include aespa's 〈Whiplash〉 (2nd place), the OST of the animation 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉, 〈Golden〉 (3rd place), and Hwang Garam's 〈I Am a Firefly〉 (4th place). Experts analyzed that the phenomenon of older songs or tracks from verified artists staying long in the top charts is becoming entrenched as the share of new songs declines.

Global charts hit by 〈K-Demon〉 OST and K-Pop icons

Based on global streaming data, the global charts saw multiple songs from the OST of the animation 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉 enter the top 10, marking an unusual success. Alongside this, the performances of global pop icons such as Rosé and Bruno Mars's 〈Apartment〉, Jennie's 〈Like Jennie〉, and BTS Jimin's 〈Who〉 remained dazzling.

The year 2025 in the music industry is expected to be recorded as a year where the album power of boy groups, backed by strong fandom support, and the resurgence of digital songs reflecting public taste starkly contrast with each other.
