Hollywood's rising star Sydney Sweeney is facing a potential legal dispute after pulling off a bizarre performance by hanging lingerie on the iconic 'Hollywood Sign' in Los Angeles.
According to American entertainment media TMZ and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce on the 27th (Korean time), Sydney Sweeney recently approached the Hollywood Sign at night to promote her upcoming lingerie brand 'Syrn'.
◆ "Climbed the 'H' Letter and Hung Bras"
In a video released by TMZ, Sweeney, dressed in black cargo pants and a hoodie, was seen climbing the massive 'H' letter of the Hollywood Sign. Amid the watchful eyes of her production team, she hung several bras like laundry on the top of the sign and cheered. Most of the bras were collected afterward, but it was reported that 4 to 5 were left on site.
◆ Did She Rely on Bezos?
This incident is revealed to be a promotion for Sweeney's new brand, which is reportedly backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Sweeney has a close business relationship with him, having been invited to his wedding last summer. Some cynics have reacted, saying, "Even if a legal dispute arises, it can be resolved with Bezos's financial power."
◆ Chamber of Commerce: "Clear Unauthorized Action, Legal Measures"
The issue lies in the scope of 'permission'. Sweeney's team received filming permission from 'FilmLA', but did not get approval for touching or climbing the sign. Steve Nissen, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, stated in a press release, "There was no prior knowledge or approval whatsoever," indicating a strong response by saying, "This is an infringement of intellectual property and trespassing."
There is a precedent from 2017 when artist Zachary Cole Fernandez was arrested for changing the sign to 'Hollyweed', leading to speculation that Sweeney may also face charges of property damage or trespassing. However, the LAPD has stated that no criminal investigation is currently underway.
