In a video message, Ellen stated, "I am really sorry about what is happening in Minneapolis and our country," expressing her feelings by saying, "I’m so sad, and so angry, and so worried". She recalled, "Minneapolis is where I filmed my last stand-up special, For Your Approval. At that time, I chose that place because it was called 'the happiest city in America,' and I confirmed that it was indeed true," lamenting the current situation of the city marred by protests and bloodshed.

The incident Ellen mentioned was the shooting death of Renee Good, a mother of two and a protester, by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on the 7th. An independent autopsy revealed that Renee Good suffered three gunshot wounds to her head and chest. While authorities claim it was an act of self-defense, Ellen shared a statement from Renee Good's wife, Becca Good, indirectly criticizing the excessive force with the phrase, "We heard the whistle, and they had guns."
