The sequel to the Netflix animated film 〈K-Pop Demon Hunters〉 (hereafter 〈K-DH〉), which has integrated Korean culture and created a global box office sensation, is officially in production.

According to Bloomberg and other sources, Netflix announced on the 12th (local time) that it has signed a multi-year exclusive animation writing and directing partnership with Canadian-Korean co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, officially confirming the production of the sequel. The release date for the sequel has not yet been disclosed, and it is reported to be in the early stages of production.

Director Maggie Kang expressed, "As a Korean filmmaker, I feel immense pride that people want to see more stories and characters from Korea," adding, "This is just the beginning, and there is still so much more to show in the world we have created."

Director Appelhans also shared, "The (HuntRix) characters feel like family to us, and their world has become our second home. I am excited to write their next story and expand the realm where music, animation, and storytelling come together as we watch them grow."

〈K-DH〉 tells the story of the K-Pop girl group HuntRix protecting the world from evil spirits. The protagonist is a K-Pop singer, and elements of Korean culture and sentiment, such as bathhouses, traditional medicine clinics, kimbap, and cup noodles, are woven throughout the work.

Since its premiere in June last year, it has surpassed 500 million global views, setting the record for the highest-grossing Netflix content of all time, surpassing 〈Squid Game〉. The original soundtrack (OST) 'Golden' also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart.

The award show results are also impressive. In January of this year, it won the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Golden Globe Awards, as well as the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Critics' Choice Awards. In February, it made history as the first K-Pop genre Grammy winner by receiving the 'Best Song Written for Visual Media' award at the American Grammy Awards. It is also nominated for two categories at the Academy Awards taking place on the 15th, drawing attention to the possibility of additional wins.
