The 2.18 Billion Won Guitar That Proves the Legend of Rock

The guitar of the legendary British rock band 'Pink Floyd' was sold for an astronomical amount exceeding 200 million won, newly decorating the world auction history. The New York Times (NYT) reported that the black 'Stratocaster' guitar, favored by guitarist 'David Gilmour', was finally sold for $14.55 million (approximately 2.18 billion won) at 'Christie's Auction' in New York.

This sale price overwhelmingly surpasses the previous record of $6.01 million set by 'Kurt Cobain', the frontman of Nirvana, by nearly three times. The instrument was central to the recording of the band's classic albums and live performances during their golden era in the 1970s. After being auctioned to the late Jim Irsay in 2019, it reappeared on the market following his passing, setting a remarkable record after a fierce competition lasting 21 minutes, far exceeding the expected price.
