The leading figures of Korean cinema and drama gather in one place.
The voice documentary launched by tvN, I Am K, is a program that interprets the reality of the syndrome phenomenon through the perspectives and insights of highly engaged individuals in K-content both domestically and internationally. In particular, it is expected to draw attention as an 'interview-centered voice documentary' that drives the narrative solely through questions and answers, based on data from the 'Overseas Korean Wave Survey' conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea International Cultural Exchange Foundation (KOFICE).
This documentary features 43 individuals from the domestic popular culture scene, as well as global scholars and fans from around the world participating as storytellers. Director Park Chan-wook, writer Kim Eun-hee, actors Lee Jung-jae, Byun Woo-seok, and Aden Jo from I Am K-Pop Demon Hunters, among others, are prominently featured as key figures in K-movies and K-dramas. Additionally, K-pop artists such as Sunmi, Onew, ATEEZ, TWS, and izna contribute to showcasing the diverse aspects of K-culture.
The global lineup adds a touch of expert perspective. Scholars such as writer Bernard Werber, 2024 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences winner James A. Robinson, Janet Yang, the first Asian president of the Academy, and Donald Sussman, a master of European comparative history, participate to provide multifaceted interpretations of the content syndrome.
The program consists of a total of two parts. In Part 1, 'Why do you love K?', domestic figures become interviewers and ask fans around the world why they are enthusiastic about K-content. Then, in Part 2, 'What is K?', domestic artists respond to fans' questions, aiming to capture a three-dimensional communication.
I Am K Part 1 will air on April 7 at 10:10 PM, and Part 2 will air on April 8 at 10:40 PM on tvN.
