SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’ is rewriting its own highest viewership ratings thanks to Yoo Yeon-seok’s godlike pursuit of the truth, continuing an unstoppable streak of popularity.
Nationwide 9.1% · peak 11.3% recorded… breaking its own record as it achieves “total domination” of buzz
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research firm, episode 4 of ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’, aired on the 21st, recorded nationwide viewership of 9.1% and 9.3% in the Seoul metropolitan area, surpassing the show’s previous best. In particular, the minute-by-minute peak viewership surged as high as 11.3%, and the 2049 target viewership also claimed No. 1 among all Friday-Saturday broadcasts with 2.6%, proving its overwhelming buzz.
The vile truth behind a trainee’s fatal fall… a tragedy born from twisted envy
In the episode, the shocking identity of the true culprit who drove high school student victim Kim Soo-a (played by Oh Ye-joo) to her death was revealed. Shin I-rang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok), while tracking the composer Ko Jong-seok (played by Jeong Si-heon) who stole Soo-a’s self-composed song, uncovered that the culprit was actually fellow trainee Emma (played by Cheon Young-min), who had been closest to Soo-a.
Emma was consumed by twisted inferiority toward Soo-a, who was able to develop her talent despite poverty, and pushed her off the rooftop. Shin I-rang then extracted Emma’s confession through a carefully laid trap investigation using an electric-shock device with no battery, and, working together with Yoon Bong-soo (played by Jeon Seok-ho), who was lying in wait on-site, arrested even Ko Jong-seok, delivering a perfectly satisfying comeuppance ending.
The last gift sent from beyond the grave… a touching motherly love that led to a corneal donation
After solving the case, Shin I-rang learned Soo-a’s biological mother’s identity (played by Cho In) and helped fulfill her final wish. Discovering her true heart—that she had to step away in order to protect her daughter amid a situation involving fear of losing her sight—Soo-a gifted her mother her own corneas through the organ donation registered during her lifetime. Soo-a’s beautiful goodbye, which cleared her resentment and helped her mother find the light, moved viewers to tears and showcased the essence of the “Shin I-rang-style” healing story.
“Your lawyer, Shin I-rang”… the start of the bona fide “ghost-specialist attorney”
In the closing moments of the broadcast, Shin I-rang no longer denied ghosts and instead accepted his fate with composure. The ending, in which he awakens and tells the newly appearing male ghost, “Your lawyer, Shin I-rang,” sent chills down viewers’ spines.
Especially in the next case, Shin I-rang will take on the defense of the wife accused of murdering her husband, the husband ghost who died unjustly, while Han Na-hyun (played by Lee Som) steps in to defend the wife—setting up a showdown between two lawyers they can’t avoid. ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’, an SBS drama where viewers can look forward to the full-scale performance of the “divinely gifted” lawyer Shin I-rang, airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
