The film 〈The Devil Wears Prada 2〉 (The Devil Wears Prada 2) has unveiled behind-the-scenes details about its costumes and styling ahead of its April 29 release.
Molly Rogers, who handled the costumes in the previous film, has returned as the costume director for this sequel. According to the production team, the costumes in this film focused on reflecting the characters' narratives and identities rather than following fleeting trends.
Editor-in-chief 'Miranda' (Meryl Streep)'s style was inspired by the iconic silhouettes of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. Building on the cropped jacket and pencil skirt that were key items in the first film, Meryl Streep herself sourced fashion pieces and took part in the styling process.
'Andy', played by Anne Hathaway, wears a total of 47 outfits in the film. Andy's style concept this time is 'feminine menswear,' using high-waisted trousers, blazers, and vests to reflect her growth as she returns to a magazine as a planning editor after 20 years working as a journalist. Costume director Molly Rogers said she added the backstory that Andy picked up clothes at vintage shops in the places she visited on assignment, giving the wardrobe more texture and detail.
The film features collections from numerous luxury brands, including Dior, Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, and Loewe. 'Emily' (played by Emily Blunt) and 'Nigel' (Stanley Tucci) will also showcase costumes that reflect their respective character developments and professional traits.
〈The Devil Wears Prada 2〉 tells the story of Miranda, editor-in-chief of the legendary fashion magazine 'Runway,' and Andy and Emily, who reunite with her after 20 years and struggle to seize the initiative in the fashion world amid a changing media landscape. The film will have its world-first theatrical release in South Korean theaters on Wednesday, April 29.
