TVING to Release 'Comedy Shortraps' in June! All-Star Lineup with Lee Yong-jin, Hwang Je-seong, Kwak Beom, and Lee Chang-ho—A Brutal Shorts-Form Battle!

A competitive format that unfolds within a limited time of about 2 minutes and 30 seconds, promising even faster and more intense laugh moments than traditional comedy.

TVING, Korea’s leading OTT platform, is bringing shorts-form comedy—popular for its strong traction on social media—onto a stage for the first time in the domestic OTT landscape with its original entertainment show 〈Comedy Shortraps〉. It will kick off on June 1 at 8:00 a.m., launching a full-scale push into the comedy market.

〈Comedy Shortraps〉 is a shorts-form comedy entertainment show introduced by TVING. You can enjoy it without logging into your TVING account. Over 12 weeks, from Monday through Friday every day, three teams’ brand-new shorts will be released each day, totaling 192 comedy shorts for viewers.

〈Comedy Shortraps〉 is built on a competitive format that unfolds within a limited time of around 2 minutes and 30 seconds, promising laughs that are even faster and more intense than before. In particular, targeting the MZ generation—digital natives—it goes beyond simply watching by introducing a way for users to directly participate and help shape the fun. With its short-but-intense “interactive shorts-form comedy,” 〈Comedy Shortraps〉 is expected to deliver a thrilling sense of immersion to those watching.

The lineup is just as impressive. The 15-team roster—divided into “major-minor”—sets expectations from the start. The five major teams are ▲ Lee Yong-jin & Nam Ho-yeon (Yong-ho-sang-bak) ▲ Hwang Je-seong & Seolmyeong-geun (Hwang-seol-tang) ▲ Kwak Beom & Lee Chang-ho (Bang-short-guk) ▲ Im Woo-il, Lee Seung-hwan, and Hong Ye-seul (150 seconds) ▲ Shin Yun-seung & Park Min-seong (Hee-ge-in-jeu), bringing together five top-tier comedians who currently lead Korea’s comedy scene. Facing them in the minor league are 10 challenger teams, including the bold rookie Jeong Chan-min and Choi Ji-yong (Kau Club), who have honed their skills through comedy programs and social media, as well as Jo Chung-hyun, U-s-seu-ri-jum, Choi Woo-sun, Rook-i-chi, Han Tae-soo, and others—each with solid capabilities—aiming for an upset by going head-to-head with comedy alone. Through 〈Comedy Shortraps〉, where seasoned know-how clashes with fresh creativity, viewers are expected to see the spectrum of comedy expand even further.

In particular, the overall league will keep 15 teams each week, but within the minor league pool, a harsh rule is applied in which participating teams are swapped depending on the item. This is designed not only to maximize tension, but also to create a narrative for discovering up-and-coming comedians through the minor league and for the birth of new stars.

A key viewing point is the voting system that lets users participate directly. Rankings are determined by user reactions such as the number of views, vote counts, and likes on the TVING app. TVING plans to debut an in-app self-contained voting system for the first time. Likes within the shorts will also be tallied to strengthen the competitive element. Voting can be done after logging in, and it runs from 8:00 a.m. on the day of upload until 11:59 p.m. Voting results will be announced on Sunday. Teams that take first place will receive an allocation right that lets them directly choose the upload day for the following week—adding even more to the intense strategic battle. Each week, a prize of 1,000,000 won will be awarded to the top minor league team.

There are also bold winning incentives prepared to fuel the contestants’ competitive drive. The final winning team—determined by total points across 12 episodes—will get the opportunity to directly plan and produce one episode of “TVING Original Comedy Show” featuring their own name. A TVING official said, “〈Comedy Shortraps〉 is the first OTT attempt to experience the essence of ‘comedy’ in the fastest and most intense way possible,” adding, “Everyone will be able to enjoy powerful fun with ease, and TVING will inject new energy into the comedy genre.” The first-ever domestic shorts-form comedy league, TVING Original 〈Comedy Shortraps〉, can be seen on TVING starting June 1.
