SBS's Fri-Sat drama 〈My Royal Nemesis〉 showed a rise in ratings within its first week on air, putting it squarely on a successful trajectory.
According to Nielsen Korea, the TV ratings agency, episode 2 of 〈My Royal Nemesis〉, which aired on the 9th, recorded 5.3% in the Seoul metropolitan area, 5.4% nationwide, and a peak viewership of 6.9%. These figures mark an increase from episode 1 and reflect viewers' positive response to the time-transcending premise and the lead actors' performances.
The episode fully depicted the 21st-century survival saga of the Joseon-era villainess Shin Seori (played by Im Ji-yeon). Footage from her days as a supporting actor went viral as the 'Heebin-possession meme,' making Seori a hot topic; while working a part-time job for a home-shopping channel she reinvented herself as a sellout ace, demonstrating fluent Chinese and martial arts skills. Cha Se-gye (Heo Nam-jun), after recognizing Seori's buzz and commercial value, said, "I've come to need you. Desperately so," and proposed a business contract, signaling the beginning of their romance.
At the end of the episode, tension rose as a connection dating back 300 years between the three key characters was revealed. Seori, terrified, fled when she saw Choi Mun-do (Jang Seung-jo), who resembled the man who had once driven her to death, but the ending revealed that the man who had saved Seori from the storage chest in the past was someone who looked like Se-gye. The relationship linking Seori, Se-gye, and Mun-do through their past lives came to the surface, amplifying curiosity about future developments.
〈My Royal Nemesis〉 airs on SBS every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m.
