A new benchmark for evolving K-zombies: “Swarm,” a main poster that reflects Yeon Sang-ho director’s relentless universe. The overwhelming horror and a philosophy of survival are perfectly condensed into a single image.
A Mutation Attack That Feeds on Intelligence, Swallowing the Theater Scene
The creator of the K-zombie universe, director “Yeon Sang-ho”, is once again shaking up the screen landscape. The new release “Swarm” is continuing a runaway run at the box office, and it appears poised to take over the break-even milestone. According to the Korean Integrated Cinema Ticketing System (KOBIS) report released on the 29th, “Swarm” drew about 125,000 viewers in just the previous day, holding fast to the top spot in the box office with a commanding sales market share of 55.2%.
Since it unveiled on the 21st, the cumulative audience count has surged past 2.503 million. In particular, during the Buddha’s Birthday holiday period, it generated a staggering 1.8 million viewers, proving its explosive box-office power. Given this steep upward curve, it is all but certain that the upcoming weekend will see “Swarm” comfortably clear the break-even point—reaching the 3 million cumulative viewer mark.
Jun Ji-hyun X Koo Kyo-hwan, A Blood-Soaked Fight in the Middle of the City
The director’s ambition reaches its fullest impact in a closed, everyday space: a massive shopping mall embedded within the city. Starring Jun Ji-hyun and Koo Kyo-hwan, the film dissects with precision the desperate survival instinct of a group of humans struggling amid an unprecedented large-scale infection outbreak. Above all, the never-before-seen setup of “zombies that share intelligence and evolve in real time” completely breaks the clichés of existing genre films. This clever twist sparks viewers’ intellectual curiosity and is functioning as the key engine behind its long-running box-office momentum.

A Fierce Theater Ecosystem, With Reservation-Rate Domination That’s “Ongoing”
Rivals are chasing hard, but they’re no match for the scale of “Swarm”. “Backroom”, a film that tackles the primal fear that comes from an unknown space, held on to second place with about 33,000 viewers (15.5% share). Behind it were pop emperor’s biopic “Michael” (about 18,000 viewers) and “Mandalorian and Grogu” (about 12,000 viewers).
Even the reservation-rate indicators, seen as a future signal, show a decisive win for “Swarm”. As of 9 a.m. on the 29th, it locked in a fortress with an overwhelming reservation rate of 39.6% and secured roughly 180,000 reserved viewers. “Kang Dong-won”, “Um Tae-goo”, and “Park Ji-hyun”-starred comedy action film “Wild Thing”, set to hit theaters next month on the 3rd, moved up to second place with a reservation rate of 12.0%, signaling a fresh shift. For now, though, observers expect the theater crown to remain with “Swarm”.
