Movie 〈The Journey to Gyeongju〉—a film that drew attention for bringing together South Korean acting heavyweights Lee Jeong-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam, and Lee Yeon—has confirmed its Aug. 26 release and unveiled two poster versions. 〈The Journey to Gyeongju〉 is a family revenge drama about four mothers and daughters who, after eight years of waiting, embark on a “killer” trip for their youngest daughter, “Gyeongju,” who never returned from a math trip.
The newly released posters appear ordinary at first glance, but the copy teases a startling incident amid the family’s strangely charged atmosphere, sparking curiosity and signaling the arrival of a fresh revenge drama that breaks from typical genre conventions.
First, the first poster captures the four people, each with a distinct look, riding in a yellow van. From “Ok-sil,” the mother (Lee Jeong-eun), who prays clutching a rosary, to “Jang-ju,” the oldest who grips the steering wheel while watching nervously, to “Young-ju,” the second who tests a disposable camera for an alibi, to “Dong-ju,” the third who calmly drifts off into a deep sleep. Their different personalities come through clearly. At first, it looks like an ordinary family trip, but the red silhouettes in the shape of a person placed among them and the bold copy “I kidnapped the killer” seize attention and hint at a development no one can predict.

The second poster finds all four mother-and-daughters taking a group photo while smiling brightly, with “Gyeongung and Wolji” as the backdrop—one of Gyeongju’s representative historical sites. ‘FAMILY’ The scenes where they match their group T-shirts and strike affectionate poses look, at first glance, more than harmonious. But underneath that, a thorough revenge plan they prepared over eight years lies in wait, bringing a chilling tension. On top of that, the copy “The trip is the alibi, the purpose is revenge. I kidnapped the killer,” along with bloodstains, intensifies curiosity about the full story behind the “killer” family getaway.
〈The Journey to Gyeongju〉 features an unmatched lineup of actors who display a wide spectrum of performance regardless of genre—from Lee Jeong-eun, celebrated for her acting range in titles such as 〈Zombie Daughter〉〈She has two different days, day and night〉〈Parasite〉, and Gong Hyo-jin, who has captivated audiences with grounded, life-saturated performances with unique individuality in works like 〈The People Next Door〉〈When the Camellia Blooms〉〈The Goddess of Jealousy〉. Park So-dam, who showed off delicate emotional acting and a brilliant presence through 〈I’m Going to Die Soon〉〈Parasite〉〈The Priests〉, and Lee Yeon, noted for her eye-catching charm and standout acting skills in roles such as 〈The Great Lady of the 21st Century〉〈Saved by the Sea?〉〈The Trial of a Young Man〉. Together, they have assembled a formidable lineup. Meanwhile, 〈The Journey to Gyeongju〉 is director Kim Mi-jo’s first commercial film, after her debut work 〈Seagull〉, which earned recognition for her directing ability. Even before its release, it has been invited in succession to major film festivals, including the Hawaii International Film Festival and the Florence Korean Film Festival, building expectations.
