A reimagining of a timeless icon, a new grammar of luxury to be etched onto the screen
Hyundai Motor’s high-end luxury brand “Genesis” announced on the 29th that it is stepping in to provide overall production support for the tribute film “Flesh Impact” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of pop-culture icon “Marilyn Monroe.” The historic project is expected to unveil itself to the world for the first time through the “2026 Venice International Film Festival” to be held this coming September.
The project is being spearheaded by actor and director “Maggie Gyllenhaal,” who has earned critical acclaim for her distinctive directing prowess, drawing attention from the film world already at the planning stage. In particular, Hollywood’s next-generation muse “Dakota Johnson” will take apart Monroe’s youthful era, while “Ellen Burstyn,” a celebrated master who has won the Academy Award for Best Actress, will break down Monroe’s later years—completing a heavy, era-spanning narrative.
Genesis shared a clear philosophy behind its support for cultural and artistic endeavors, saying that Monroe’s independent life—fighting relentlessly for her dreams even amid a harsh environment and the limits of her times, and exerting enormous influence even on modern society—perfectly aligns with the brand’s challenging and innovative values.
Director “Maggie Gyllenhaal,” who is at the helm, said, “When ‘Genesis’ first proposed this monumental project marking the 100th anniversary of Monroe’s birth, I wanted to bring that vision to life without hesitation,” adding, “I reinterpreted the figure of Monroe—an icon the public has remembered and loved blindly—from the most modern and self-directed perspective, breathing new life into her hidden narrative.”
Amy Marentich, Genesis’s chief marketing officer for North America, also stressed that “this film production support is an unequivocal brand commitment to shine a deep light on cultural icons that have left an immortal legacy beyond simple sponsorship,” previewing a successful combination of art and luxury mobility.
